Bio & CV
I am an Italian born artist based in West London. After graduating from high school in my hometown of Milan, I moved to London and completed a BA in Fine Art at Middlesex University in 2012. I since spent time developing my practice in Beijing and New York as an artist in residence.
My interest lays in the representation of the urban environment and its developments, focusing on factors such as urban growth, economy, migration and globalization. My paintings suggest that these elements have had a significant impact on shaping the aesthetics of the contemporary cityscape as much as the architectural spectacle that accommodates them.
I often draw inspiration from maps of cities and statistical graphs concerning urban development. In order to translate these data into paintings, I elaborate and personalize them, creating an aesthetic that is harmonic and delicate, and jars with the cold images of graphs.
I also use geometry to encapsulate the essence of urban architecture in my paintings. My use of geometric clusters and their graceful aesthetics rendered with earthy and soft colours, propose organic growth, and potentially suggest the idea of self-growing cities.
In another series of paintings, I represent “sunken architectures”, where buildings are dug into the ground, creating vertiginous perspectives that recall earth cracks and fissures. Remains of ancient cities that are found underground and underwater, as we literally live on top of our history, inspired me to convey visually this phenomenon with upside-down structures and architectural negative spaces.
